College Now

The College Now Program is a city-wide collaborative initiative between the City University of New York (CUNY) and the New York City Department of Education. Through a partnership with Queens College, IHS-HS students in the 11th and 12th grades will be given the opportunity to take college courses while still in high school. Its primary goals are to improve the academic achievement of high school students and to ensure that graduating students are ready to do college-level work. The College Now Program at Queens College consists of three components: College Credit Program, Pre-College Program, and Summer Programs. Classes are free of charge and give students both college and high school credit.

Newtown Campus

IHS-HS is located on the fourth floor of the Newtown High School (Q455), which serves children in grades 9-12. Each school is a separate NYC public school, with its own administration, faculty, budget, and classroom and office space. Shared building space includes the gymnasium, the cafeteria, and the athletic field.

Future Ready is the signature initiative of the Adams Administration. IHSHS participated in the pilot year in 2022-23 and continues with the program, which has four components.  These components are:

  • CTE Classes: A four-year sequence of Career and Technical classes in the Healthcare pathway

  • Work-Based Learning: Opportunities for paid and unpaid Internships

  • 1:1 Advising: College and Career Advising that begins in 9th grade

  • College Now: Students can earn college credits in our Health Careers pathway through our partner, Queens Community College.

Community High School

Through a Federal District level grant, our school is partnered with Queens Community House for additional support in Attendance, After-school classes, Parent opportunities, and Counseling. This partnership includes two additional staff members who work for QCH but are at our school every day, our Community School Director and Youth Advocate.

Public School Athletic League (PSAL)

The Public School Athletic League is the organization through which International High School for Health Sciences students are offered inter-scholastic sports. They play on teams along with Newtown HS students.

Theatre Development Fund (TDF)

Through TDF's Stage Doors Program, students are exposed to a Broadway show followed by a post-performance discussion with the actors, directors and writers. Prior to viewing the performance a teaching artist collaborates with the cooperating teacher to introduce the play to the students. After the performance, the teaching artist, the teacher and the students create a performance inspired by the show.

New York Hall of Science (NYSCI)

NYSCI’s mission is to nurture generations of passionate learners, critical thinkers and active citizens through design, making things and play. We partner with them for internships, and various projects throughout the year.
